S. frankiana is a widely distributed species with relatively little morphological variation. It is readily identifiable in the field and in collections. Therefore, all the names listed under “Synonyms”, if validly described or mentioned as “nom. prov.” are not approved here. They are nothing but slightly differing forms of S. frankiana. The also in this context published S. frankiana var. variabilis (see Slaba & Sorma (2007) does not belong here at all because it is a form of S. callichroma, growing on the east side of the Rio Chico.
