This species was first reported from the Mojocoya basin, but some finds from east of Presto are very much alike. Almost all population have magenta flowers except G254 from north of Redencion Pampa where several plants have been found with yellow flowers. Some investigations indicate that it is not possible to cross-pollinate the two forms (priv. comm.).
