Sulcorebutia steinbachii var. verticillacantha is only known from several places near the pump-station of Parotani, where it normally flowers violet. In some other places also red, orange and yellow flower can be found. The plants are very similar to those of S. steinbachii v. taratensis which comes from the Tarata area some 45 km to the west (southwest).
