Type Locality:
Bolivia, Dept Cochabamba, Prov. El Cercado, near Tupuraya
Distribution:
The type-location “Tupuraya” does not exist anymore and nobody has found such a plant since the middle of the “eighties”. Today the whole hillside is a completely built-up area. Therefore, this is probably one Sulcorebutia that has been completely exterminated in its natural habitat.

Most of the cultivated S. steinbachii v. krugerae have yellow flowers, some of them show reddish outer petals.
