Growing only locally usually under shrubs. In some spots, there are mostly yellow spined plants and often nearby predominantly white ones. Quite obviously, S. tarabucoensis ssp. patriciae is closely related to ssp. hertusii, but the plant-bodies get much bigger and they are less offsetting.
