Sulcorebutia crispata ssp. hertusii as well as S. gerosenilis were described on the base of a very densely, long and hairy spined form of these plants. It was never mentioned that the populations are very variable. Even at the type-location several very different forms have been observed. This is well described in the article in “Echinopseen” mentioned below.
