The origin of Rebutia caracarensis was unknown before Andreas Wessner and Karlheinz Müller discovered the natural reserve of
El Palmar where they found at that time unknown Sulcorebutias. Later Johan de Vries et al. explored this area and from his finds
it became clear that Rebutia caracarensis must have been found there.
