Type Locality:
Mexico, Zacatecas, without more accurate location. Based on cultivated plants sent from F. Schwarz to E. Shurly.
Distribution:
Mexico, Zacatecas, around Ciudad Zacatecas, at Tepetongo, at the Cerro de La Bufa, at San Francisco de Los Organos, Sombrerete or in the Sierra Chapultepec and at Los Hornillos at altitudes between 2000 and 2600 meters. Grows mostly in stony slopes, often associated with herbs and grasses in a sandy humus substrate.

Extra Info:
Hunt (1997) put her as a subspecies to M. jaliscana. But differs from this clearly by the smaller number of marginal spines, the yellowish to golden brown spination, the whitish to cream-colored flowers and the red-colored fruits. However, the flowers and fruit characteristics clearly indicate a relationship with M. mercadensis or M. sinistrohamata.
