Extra Info:
In contrast to S. purpurea v. purpurea, S.purpurea v. santiaginiensis is extremely variable. Beside plants with just some short, adpressed spines there are others with very heavy spination. At many locations the 2 extremes and all kinds of intermediates can be found side by side. There seems to be no way to draw a line. S. unguispina Rausch and S. horacekii Slaba & Sorma are just form within this incredible swarm of Sulcorebutias.
