Extra Info:
In contrast to the first description, most plants known under the name S. totorensis have several central spines. Cárdenas only mentioned 9-13 pectinate, lateral spines. To my knowledge, no well-defined original material is known. To north of the mentioned road we know many populations with heavily spined plants. Further to the south the plants are less heavy spined with no centrals. Short and pectinate spined plants with dark bodies have been described as S. heinzii. This type of plants was first found by Heinz Swoboda under his number HS151.
